Writing About Writing About Writing About Comics
Okay, I’m just writing about my comic now, I’m totally admitting that. I just… I sort of almost forget about it sometimes, when I get really engaged in my other writing projects. I do that, it’s like forgetting to phone one of your friends for like, six months.

Anyway. Yeah. Writing comics. I used to want to write comics for a living, but I no longer think I’m really set-up for that world. There are very few positions available, and it’s… Well, I’m writing a lot of prose these days. I hope to always be writing comics throughout my life, I just don’t feel like its something I can pursue to the point of neglecting the possibilities of other forms.
Some days I think I might write a… screenplay…
Without sounding like too much of a douche, I’d say I’m proud of The Young Offenders. It’s totally the first comic I’ve ever written, and that Peter’s ever drawn, and I think you can really see us learning a lot over the pages. I’m not saying it’s a ground-breaking work that’ll shake the comic world to the core… Just that I’m pleased with it. I’m happy to get to show it to people, and talk about it. I don’t like to be egotistical, but… I think maybe it’s easier for me to be quite proud of The YO since so much of it is Peter!
And so much of it is a weird, quasi-East Vancouver… Terminal City, where all my urban, mythically sci-fi adventures seem to take place… A city full of drug abuse and corrupt cops, just the stuff you need to tell gritty tales full of violence and modern-day dangers!
I’m such a geek for the stuff I love. Dirty back-alleys, well-plotted hyper-violence, snarling pools of darkness, untrustworthy authority figures….
