Shit I’ve Done
For those of you just checking in with me here and now…
I am Savage Henry Lee. This is my blog, where I write dadaist beatnik prose, usually connected to themes of violence, sexuality, fire, kinetic motion, and 90’s-style cultural rebellion.
I have Savage Selections, which is where I reproduce stuff I like that other people write.
I also have Savaged Text, which is where I put my really adult “Oh baby, I wanna get in your pants and do stuff and yeah like that,” sorta writing. Yeah.
There’s also Perpetrating Ontological Thuggery, which is where I reproduce funny images I see here. So there’s that.
Off of Tumblr, my big thing is The Young Offenders, an online comic I’m the writer and co-creator on. I think we’re on a semi-permanent hiatus at this point, but it’s still some 60 pages of violence and darkness and nasty little kids being awesome.
And that’s about me!
The Young Offenders Updates Again!
A new page has been added to The Young Offenders!
The Young Offenders is a comic I’ve been writing for several years now, about a gang of strange kids. It’s black and white, quite violent, and free to read on-line. There’s also swearing, and morally questionable behaviour on a whole.
Recommending Reading: The Young Offenders (yet again)!
Okay, so I do this every couple of weeks or so (often when I’m at work)… I feel obliged to tell my new followers every so often.
IF you’ve been reading me, and you think there’s something about my writing that you enjoy, might I recommend you check out:
The YO is a comic I write; it’s a black & white on-going narrative that deals with mature subject matter, though it often deals with them by using strange sci-fi super-powers.
Basically, it’s about a group of kids with weird abilities, fighting to protect a ghettoized neighbourhood. I write it, and my good buddy Peter Severinson draws it! And you can read it all, for free, at our web page…
Hope you see something you like!
Writing About Writing About Writing About Comics
Okay, I’m just writing about my comic now, I’m totally admitting that. I just… I sort of almost forget about it sometimes, when I get really engaged in my other writing projects. I do that, it’s like forgetting to phone one of your friends for like, six months.
Anyway. Yeah. Writing comics. I used to want to write comics for a living, but I no longer think I’m really set-up for that world. There are very few positions available, and it’s… Well, I’m writing a lot of prose these days. I hope to always be writing comics throughout my life, I just don’t feel like its something I can pursue to the point of neglecting the possibilities of other forms.
Some days I think I might write a… screenplay…
Without sounding like too much of a douche, I’d say I’m proud of The Young Offenders. It’s totally the first comic I’ve ever written, and that Peter’s ever drawn, and I think you can really see us learning a lot over the pages. I’m not saying it’s a ground-breaking work that’ll shake the comic world to the core… Just that I’m pleased with it. I’m happy to get to show it to people, and talk about it. I don’t like to be egotistical, but… I think maybe it’s easier for me to be quite proud of The YO since so much of it is Peter!
And so much of it is a weird, quasi-East Vancouver… Terminal City, where all my urban, mythically sci-fi adventures seem to take place… A city full of drug abuse and corrupt cops, just the stuff you need to tell gritty tales full of violence and modern-day dangers!
I’m such a geek for the stuff I love. Dirty back-alleys, well-plotted hyper-violence, snarling pools of darkness, untrustworthy authority figures….
The Young Offenders: Dot
Dot is one of the main characters of The Young Offenders.
She’s definitely the most mysterious member of the team, or at least, she’s the one I get the most questions about. Who is she? What’s she all about? Why’s she so mean?
There’s a bit of The Boondocks’ Huey Freeman in the inspiration for her, and maybe just hint of the the 90’s Marvel character “Night-Thrasher,” though the implications of that reference are a little obscure.
I love Dot. She’s cute as a button, and swears like a Tarantino movie.
The Young Offenders: Plugging My Projects
Sometimes, when I’m not writing big blocks of run-on text describing surrealist acts of violence, I write other stuff.
Sometimes I write comics, or rather, I write my comic. My comic…
What’s it? Well, it’s an on-line, on-going graphic narrative. I write it, my buddy Peter draws it, and it’s totally free to read, at the website, www.TheYoungOffenders.com!
What’s it about? Basically…
It’s about a gang of strange kids trying to protect a run-down neighbourhood.
It’s kinda dark, kinda violent, kinda funny. We’ve got five completed chapters up so far, and we’ll always working on more - I am, and the series’ co-creator and artist, Peter Severinson! He’s the best!
I love writing comics. I’ve read them since I was little, and I feel like there’s nothing you can’t do with them! I love talking about ‘em, and discussing making them, and everything.
So by all means, if you’re into comics, or if you’ve enjoyed any of my text, give it a read. And feel free to pass it on, or let me know what you think!
